    Bourbonese Qualk
Bourbonese Qualk's credentials as early and important contributors to the Industrial scene is a little known fact but is born out clearly by their presence on the seminal Elephant Table compilation from 1980 (?). Up until 1987, they were a collaborative effort by more or less two individuals: Simon Crab (Crabtree on the first couple LPs) and Steven Tanza. They went their separate ways and as has been mentioned in a previous post, Tanza's project since then has been called The State .

Crab maintained the Bourbonese Qualk name and has proven to be the more prolific and talented of the two (though Tanza's efforts have been quite good too). BQ became a virtual band with the release of My Government Is My Soul. Crab, who had for years played virtually all instruments/electronics beyond percussion, left guitar work to Miles Miles and focused more and more on a very large electronic sound, still recognizably funk-beat driven as much of their earlier music.

If you want to consider a possible answer to your question of why they aren't more popular, it's likely that this is because their/Crab's attitude has been fairly uniformly bereft of moroseness and depravity. BQ has always been very concerned with the politics of organized society and less concerned with unknown quantities of individuality. Their music reflects this. It's linear and driving. I hold them in the highest regard of any band I've ever known. The quality of their output over the years has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Having said that, I can't say I'm particularly enamored with Crab's techno aspirations of late (Autonomia).
