Version 8.0 Posted 3/29/95

Changes since last time:
	New Additions:
Shellac - "The Bird is the Most Popular Finger" 7"
		SHELLAC AT ACTION PARK album!

btw As always, this is being posted to the ftp-site at cs.uwp.edu

WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN?!?!?! dept.:
Well, to be honest, I've been busy. Coupled with laziness, and
the fact that (get this) I kinda sorta FORGOT that I did this until
some kind soul (Hi Pash) reminded me that I did this. SOrry it's been
so long, what with there being two Shellac releases since then. Won't
happen again, I promise. Regular updates will be posted.

	GRAPHICS:
There are two JPEGs (there used to be three, guess someone
pulled the SONGS ABOUT FUCKING one off for some reason), namely "He's
A Whore" and "The Model" posted at the cs.uwp.edu anonymous ftp site.
There will be more posted soon as I am in the process of possibly
setting up a full color with graphics WWW version of this here document.
Could be hap. In any event, the dir. at the ftp site is:

		pub/music/pictures/big.black

We're working on Rapeman and Shellac shit as well. Stay tuned.

	On with our program:

200 of them made in acid-etched galvanized steel jackets
though. Weighed a friggin ton, too."
-- Steve Albini, from the HAMMER PARTY liner

			and Go Records T&GINT.#1 (1987)
aka TALK ABOUT FUCKING (Blast First! UK)
		Interview album
		T&G edition promo-only
Blast First! editions come with a script with which one can
ask the band questions, even though the answers don't
match up. ALso the band is in the left channel and
the "German Interviewer" is in the right, so with a
little tweaking it sounds like the band is interview-
			ing itself.

around the time of the re-issues that had one track from each release.
Anybody have any info. on it??

	R. Bootlegs
[I will put bootlegs into this discog. IF AND ONLY IF I can get
GOOD, RELIABLE INFO (such as track listings, cat. numbers, etc.)
about them. I do NOT have the time nor the patience to type in
half-assed info. Sorry to be a dick about it, but you try
doing one of these and see how irritable you get. :)]

Allegedly a bootleg of a Blast First! Limited Release. Accord-

	S. (You got it all, Dad! We're gonna hit!) SOUND OF IMPACT
I've decided to give this particular boot. it's own

	a.	NONE of the songs are listed by their actual names. "Firecrack-
ers" is pretty self explanatory, and the rest of the
tracks without "real listings" are just Steve yammerin'.
	b.	The version of "Cables" on side 2 is the same on ATOMIZER, et al

II.	RAPEMAN 1987-1988

		Members: Steve Albini: Guitar, Vocals

				Trouser Minnow
		CD includes BUDD EP

	D. "Inky's Butt Crack/Song Number One" 7" Sub Pop Records SP040
A single for the Sub Pop Singles Club. Rare, probably way too
expensive now. Cover is a blow up of a panel from the RAPEMAN
manga, with the Rapeman laying on the bed and some kana-script.

	E. Compilation Appearances:
NOTHING SHORT OF TOTAL WAR (Blast First! UK BFFP13) (1989)
			"Dutch Courage" (studio demo)
			"Just Got Paid"

		DEVIL'S JUKEBOX (Blast First! UK BFDJ1-10) (1989)
A ten-7" box set of NOTHING SHORT OF TOTAL WAR.

	F. Bootlegs
I know there are some out there (not as many as Big Black, al-
beit.). BUT the same rules from [I., R] apply, cheese.

		SHUT UP 7"
(no info given, but since the etchings say "BLOW-400-A"
and "BLOW-400-B", we can make an educated guess that
that's the company name and cat. #.. Cover has what
looks like the Rapeman dragging a "blond superhero" by
			the hair...)

			Track Listing:
				Log Base (sic)
				Kim Gordon's Panties
				"Untitled" (actually "Radar Love Lizard")
				Trouser Minnow

				Live at London Astoria 1988

			Track Listing:
				Introduction by Limey Wanker DJ
				Log Bass
Wheelchair Epidemic (an old Dicks song)
				Steak & Black Onions
				Just Got Paid

				Live in Chester UK 1988

		FUCK ME I'M RARE CD
No company info. to my knowledge, but basically this

		a) Release date: August 29, 1994
		b) Cover seems to be made of some sort of cardboard substance.

Steve has mentioned that there is a Shellac CD that was only
released in Japan, and allegedly there's a Shellac/Zeni Geva
split 7". Does anyone out there have info on either of these?

IV. RELATED PROJECTS

	A. Steve Albini has been mainly a producer since Rapeman, although that
has changed somewhat with teh forming of Shellac.
He also plays on Pegboy's "Fore" EP. In addition, he
has played on the GUITARORRISTS(#) album (which also includes
Thurston Moore and J Mascis), and with Cath Carroll on one
track of the LAST TEMPTATION OF ELVIS charity CD that the NME
put out a few years back. In any event, here's a small sample
		of bands he's produced/engineered for.

			Jesus Lizard: "Pure" EP
					HEAD
					GOAT
					LIAR
			Pixies: SURFER ROSA
			Breeders: POD
			Superchunk: NO POCKY FOR KITTY
Poster Children: 5 tracks on FLOWER POWER (*)
					 DAISY CHAIN REACTION
			TheWeddingPresent: "Brassneck" EP
					    SEAMONSTERS
			Head of David: DUSTBOWL
			Nirvana: IN UTERO
			Pigface: GUB (%)
			Murder Inc.: MURDER INC.
			PJ Harvey: RID OF ME
			Tad: "Salt Lick" EP
Zeni Geva: DESIRE FOR AGONY (he also plays on the live
				"Alright You Little Bastards" CD)

....and others too numerous to mention :)

(#) - GUITARRORISTS: CD (No.6, KAR009, US) 1991
		       2LP (Glitterhouse[No.6], KAR009, Germany) 1991
		"Nutty About Lemurs"

(*) - The other tracks produced by Iain Burgess, noted mostly for being Naked
	Raygun's producer...

(%) - He also plays on some tracks on the album, namely "Tapeworm," "Point
Blank," "The Greenhouse," and "Tailor Made"

	B. Santiago Durango recorded two EPs under the name Arsenal ("Manipu-
lator" and "Factory Smog is a Sign of Progress"), but has
since put himself through law school, successfully, and now is
a practicing barrister in Chicago for a firm which represents,
of all people, Steve Albini. The song "Little Hitlers"
from "Manipulator" is also on the NOTHING SHORT OF TOTAL WAR
comp. He is also married to Cath Carroll, and both him and
Steve played on her album ENGLAND MADE ME, on the track "Train
		Your On."

	C. Jeff Pezzati was a founding member another local-Chicago-legend,
Naked Raygun, along with Santiago. But we'll let them speak
		for themselves.

	D. Dave Riley put out a 7" under the name Bull ($), but I heard
that he tried (and failed) to kill himself during the past year.
He also, apparently, is no longer in Bull.

($) -- BULL COmpulsive Records (CPS01) 7"
		Tinbox
		Revolver
		Dehaired Pickled and Baited

	E. Roland is somewhere in drum-machine heaven, more than likely. :)
